Participate!

Many of you already participate with us in so many ways: you regularly check our website for news, you read the newsletters we send you, and you check our website's blog.

Some of you have taken courses here already, and others are hoping to do so soon!

A number of you have asked how you can participate more, even at a distance, to strengthen the bond you feel as part of the “IBA family”. You may wish to consider the following suggestions, any of which may strike a chord of inspiration in you! We are inviting you to participate with us in IBA's goal of creating opportunities for people all over the world to experience the authentic Buddhadharma, through teachings and translation!

 Possible Ways to Participate:

If you are a translator or a publisher...
Perhaps you are a translator, publisher, or have a special interest in sponsoring translation work on one of the texts we are translating or planning to translate. Please let us know how we can work with you to help support our translators and our translation initiatives effectively.

Solar power
If you are both experienced and passionate about designing, developing and building inexpensive and easy-to-maintain solar power technology and would like to contact us about the possibility of coming here to volunteer your expertise and enthusiasm, we'd like to hear from you! e-mail form

Audio-visual Tech
Maybe you are an experienced audio-visual afficionado / tech person and are interested in joining with us to offer your time and skills! We'd like some help with the task of delivering simultaneous translation to Dharma students in different languages, recording, processing and storing our audio files, and assisting with video projects. If this describes your abilities and interests, we'd like to make contact with you! e-mail form

Part of our life
We want you to be a part of our life here at IBA and we also want to be a part of yours! When you have a need for us to do prayers and pujas on your behalf, let us know, and our monk scholars will give their skilled assistance in the ritual arts, to support you in your aspirations and your needs. We can advise you on appropriate pujas and prayers for your needs and circumstances, as well as donation levels for prayer and puja requests .

Bring a book!
If you're coming to IBA as a student, you can bring a Dharma text you really like, to leave in our library as a gift, so that future students and researchers can share the insights and information you value. We will provide a specially designed bookplate for you to place in the book, so you can write your name, year of study, and an inspiring comment, for others who will share this book with you across time and space. Or if you'd like to choose from a list of texts and references we have an immediate need for, in our Translation Department, we can e-mail our wish-list to you.  e-mail form

Give it a good home!
If you donate a used Mac Mini computer for our library's circulation purposes (we're using the “Delicious Monster” 2.4 Library program for Mac) it will free up our present library Mac Mini (which has been multi-tasking as a circulation computer as well as general administrative tool), so that we can finally have more than one computer-based productive staff activity going on in our library, by more than one person, at the same time! We now have a “faceted” library classification system which works through the same type of protocols as the Library of Congress system and are working on a barcode system to refine our circulation processes. Ask us about our work-in-progress-library, or better yet, come and see us, and we'll show you how your donation can help!

Retire your laptop!

(Speaking of used computers, there is a growing list of uses to which we can put your old laptop, if you want to give it a caring retirement home with us! The Translation Department and our monks-scholars' computer lab are first in line for giving your functioning used laptop a good home.)

If you have upgraded your external hard drive, and want to be able to visualize your old one happily containing digitized Dharma texts, sound files, and archiving ongoing and completed translation work, bring it with you to leave here, or ask us to find someone who will come here from your country, with whom you can send it. We will send you a photo of any donated computer or other technical equipment being gently used, so you can see that it is happy here!
